"Antiparasitics alone can exacerbate the hypersensitivity reaction which can be controlled with prednisone or prednisolone (typically ~20–40 mg/day, tapered). Praziquantel is the antiparasitic of choice, but it is less effective against immature schistosomes, so it can be delayed 6 weeks after the acute reaction settles, or given early and repeated later, once the flukes have matured 8."
