"Aortic ductus diverticulum is due to the persistent patency of the aortic end of the foetal ductus arteriosus. Oxygen-induced constriction and remodelling begin at birth, and closure starts at the more sensitive pulmonary end. If obliteration is incomplete, a residual outpouching of the thoracic aorta may remain, which can be mistaken for an acute aortic injury, which typically occurs at the same location."
