"Regarding the long course of the FHL from origin to insertion, this tendon is prone to friction at specific points, one of which is the intersection point with the FDL at the master knot of Henry. A fibrous slip normally connects these tendons distal to their crossover 1. There are also fibres attaching these two tendons to the vault of the plantar arch 5. As a result, this narrow space is prone to repetitive friction, which could result in tendinosis, tenosynovitis, and tears in the crossing tendons. Healing of these pathologies results in secondary fibrosis, which is responsible for the symptoms of the intersection syndrome 1."
