"The covering of the obturator foramen, the obturator membrane, attaches to the bone surrounding the foramen but does not completely cover the aperture. Superiorly, the membrane terminates with a free edge, which forms the inferior and medial edges of the anterior opening of the obturator canal. The obturator canal is funnel shaped with a large posterior (pelvic) opening and a smaller anterior (lower limb) opening. The obturator nerve, artery and vein traverse the canal, passing from the true pelvis into the lower limb.1,2 "
