"The retropubic space, also known as the prevesical space, space (or cave) of Retzius or cavum Retzii, is an avascular portion of the extraperitoneal compartment which contains loose connective and adipose tissues. It allows easy surgical access for retropubic prostatectomy and bladder suspension operations (for urinary incontinence) 5; it also provides a convenient pocket to house penile implant reservoirs. Lastly, it can provide a pathway for spread of infection or malignancy."
