"The caecum contains three recesses, the retrocaecal recess often containing the appendix, the ileocaecal recess behind the vascular fold and the inferior ileocaecal recess behind the ileocaecal fold. There are four folds, two behind the caecum forming the retrocaecal recess, one containing the anterior caecal artery named the vascular fold of the caecum and the ileocaecal fold running between the terminal ileum and the appendix base.6"
