Continued stress on the walls of the artery will degrade the vessel wall by damaging and loosening the collagen and elastin meshwork that comprises the intima. Similarly, hypercholesterolaemia or hyperlipidaemia can also provide sufficient trauma to the vessel wall resulting in dolichoectasia."
