"ARPKD is one of the commonest inheritable infantile cystic renal diseases, but it is far less common than autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), which affects adults. The incidence is estimated at ~1:20,000-50,000 6,9. There is no perceived gender or racial predilection."
"The age of presentation is variable and is divided into perinatal, neonatal, infantile, and juvenile forms (for simplicity, one can think of only two groups: those that present around birth and those that present later in childhood). There is an inverse relationship between the severity of renal disease and congenital hepatic fibrosis 13. In patients who present early (perinatal/neonatal) renal disease dominates the clinical picture, whereas in older children (infantile/juvenile) liver disease dominates 9,13."
