"Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 5 is caused by mutation to the MYC-associated factor X (MAX) gene, which is a tumour suppressor gene located on chromosome 14q23.3, encoding for the MAX protein 1,2. Loss-of-function mutations of the MAX gene leads to an increased susceptibility to tumorigenesis, particularly due to loss of suppression of and overactivity of the MYC oncogene 1,2."
